Moving is never easy. In fact, it can be downright time-consuming. Luckily, there are a lot of little things you can do that will save you some time and prevent headaches throughout the moving process.
Keep a box and a trash bag handy as you pack
As you go through your items and pack, you'll probably come across plenty of things that you no longer need. You may also come across some trash, like socks with holes in them and empty packaging. If you keep a box and trash bag by you at all times when packing, you can put the trash in the trash bag and unused items in the box. Donate the boxed items, and you save yourself the hassle and cost of transporting and unpacking them.
Be detailed in your labels
Having to unpack three boxes because you need to find one item is a big waste of time. You can save yourself some time by just being more detailed in your box labels. (For instance, instead of writing "kitchen" on a box, you might want to write "plates, silverware, toaster.") This will save you a lot of time when you need to search for something.
Buy or rent a dolly
Most moving truck companies will rent out dollies. Or you may want to buy your own so you always have it on hand in the future. In any event, a moving dolly will save you a lot of time. You can load more on the dolly than you would be able to carry, which means you can make fewer trips to the moving trucks overall.
Buy several sizes of boxes
You always want to pack a box full. This way, it won't cave in if you place something else on top of it. However, constantly having to look around for something else to fill a big box can be a waste of time. And you might end up mixing items from various rooms, making it harder to find things later on. A good approach is to stock at least two or three different sizes of boxes. This way, if you only have a few things that make sense to pack together, you can just use a smaller box.
These little moving tips can save you a lot of time. Take them to heart, and work them into your moving plan. You'll be glad you did.
